DALLAS, TX.- Dallas Contemporary announces that artist Richard Phillips has been elected to their board of directors.

Phillips is an American artist best known for his distinctive large-scale, glossy hyper-realistic paintings that evoke pop culture images from the 1950s to the 1970s. Often working with found material, his portraits frequently depict beautiful women culled from the worlds of high fashion and erotica as well as recognizable figures from film, music, and politics. In recent years he has begun to explore filmmaking as a means of creating “motion portraits.” His arresting visual style has led to collaborations with many internationally beloved brands such as MAC Cosmetics and Jimmy Choo.

His work has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States and Europe at such galleries and institutions as Le Consortium, Dijon; Dallas Contemporary; Gagosian Gallery, New York; the Kunsthalle Zurich; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Tate Modern, London; the White Cube Gallery, London; and the Whitney Museum of American Art. New York. Phillips received his BFA from Boston University and his MFA from Yale University. He presently lives and works in New York City.

“Dallas Contemporary has grown and evolved since its founding in 1978," said Peter Doroshenko, executive director of Dallas Contemporary. “The institution has developed a seminal national and international presence through exhibitions with artists such as Zoe Crosher, Loris Greaud, K8 Hardy, Georg Herold, Rob Pruitt, Jennifer Rubell, Julian Schanbel, Juergen Teller and Piotr Uklanski. As part of our institutional focus of commissioning new work for exhibitions and placing artists at the forefront of our mission, we are actively engaging new leaders in art and business outside of Dallas. We welcome Richard as a new board member during our growth in this important contemporary arts city. His insight as an artist and his international perspective will be very beneficial."
