NEW YORK, NY.- Morgan Lehman presents an exhibition of new work by Cordy Ryman. His intuitive and spontaneous process is propelled and determined primarily by the characteristics of his media. Utilizing the inherent properties of different types of lumber, Ryman manipulates each work, sawing, stacking, and painting the wood so that while geometry and pattern are clearly present, there is a strong sense of play and the unexpected. Color becomes a material in itself, with layers of paint adding to the dimensionality and textural quality of each piece.
On view in Gallery 2, Clacker Vine exaggerates the already three-dimensional nature of Rymanʼs work. The piece can be installed in endless site specific configurations, and in this installation, leaves the wall, interrupting the visual and physical plane of the viewer.
