The 2nd Istanbul Design Biennial ends with over 100.000 visitors |

ISTANBUL.- The 2nd Istanbul Design Biennial, organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV), titled The Future Is Not What It Used To Be, curated by Zoë Ryan, ended on Sunday, 14 December 2014.
Since opening on 1 November, the six-week long and free-of-charge event hosted over 100.000 visitors at the exhibitions and at pop-up venues throughout the city.
The biennial:
The 2nd Istanbul Design Biennial exhibition was installed over all five floors of the Galata Greek Primary School, an area of approximately 2,300 square metres. It hosted 53 projects by more than 200designers from 20 countries. The biennial's catalogue and visual identity were designed by Project Projects and the exhibition space by SUPERPOOL.
The Academy Programme featured 72 projects by 33 universities
In its second edition, the biennial collaborated with many universities, to explore different aspects of the biennial theme. The Academy Programme featured 72 projects by over 33 universities from Turkey and abroad. The exhibitions were visited free of charge at the event space at Antrepo 7 and university campuses.
Events:
The Istanbul Design Biennial was spread over the city with its 40 Design Walks, 22 panels and talks,12 film screenings, 5 book clubs, 13 workshops, and over 30 parallel events.
The youth and children's workshops
The youth and childrens workshops, titled EKO Tasarım, were organised by Informel Eğitim çocukistanbul every day throughout the biennial. The programme had different contents for different age groups and was open to students during the weekdays and to children and youngsters together with their parents on weekends. As part of the workshops, approximately 3.500 students and 56 schools visited the biennial.

The biennial was co-sponsored by Arçelik, Doğuş Group & Bilgili Holding, ENKA Foundation and VitrA.The Istanbul Design Biennial was also supported by the Promotion Fund of the Prime Ministry, Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Copyright, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Beyoğlu Municipality.
