BALTIMORE, MD.- The Baltimore Museum of Art is the first museum to partner with Seattle-based technology leaders STQRY (pronounced story) to develop crowdsourcing capabilities for the free STQRY app. Available on iOS and android devices, the app allows users to find museums and other cultural attractions near their current location and delve deep into the organizations’ collections, histories, programs, and events through audio, video, and images. With a presence on STQRY, the BMA joins renowned institutions such as the Seattle Art Museum, The Walt Disney Family Museum, and the National Museum of the American Indian.

Audiences can download the free STQRY app to record and instantly share their favorite work in the BMA collection, memories of the museum, a big idea for the BMA, or a question for the staff. Responses will be featured on blog.artbma.org. One hundred participants will receive a $10 gift card to the New BMA Shop.

The STQRY crowdsourcing initiative, inspired by the open source Roundware platform developed by artist Halsey Burgund, is part of the BMA’s 100 Day Celebration that began on September 23. The museum is offering 100 days of special events, activities, and contests on-site and online to commemorate the BMA’s 100th anniversary. Highlights of the 100 days include the American Wing Opening Celebration on November 23 and BMA Voices, ongoing through December 31. BMA Voices, a popular feature on blog.artbma.org, explores the museum’s collection through the eyes of its curators, conservators, and registrars, highlighting some favorite, amusing, unusual, and obscure objects.
