NEW YORK, NY.- The Museum of Modern Arts 2014 Film Benefit, to be held on November 10, will honor writer/director Alfonso Cuar髇, the Academy Award-winning director of Gravity (2013), who also directed A Little Princess (1995), Y Tu Mam Tambi閚 (2001), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), and Children of Men (2006).
The honorary co-chairs for the 2014 Film Benefit are Marie-Jos閑 Kravis, President, and Jerry I. Speyer, Chairman, of the Museums Board of Trustees. The events co-chairs include Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch, Stefano Tonchi, Kevin Tsujihara, and Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller.
The Film Benefit will be highlighted by a tribute recognizing Mr. Cuar髇s acclaimed work and a gala dinner.
Rajendra Roy, The Celeste Bartos Chief Curator of Film at MoMA, states: Alfonso Cuar髇 is the rare auteur who is completely fluent in both the grandest studio-scaled pictures as well as the dirt-road indies. Theres no one else Id rather take a cinematic voyage with, whether it be to a hidden beach in Mexico or to orbit upper-Earth.
MoMAs vast film collection includes: Y Tu Mam Tambi閚, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. and Gravity. Mr. Cuar髇 has also participated in MoMAs Contenders series, engaging in a post-screening discussion with his son, Jonas Cuar髇, after Gravity was screened as a part of the exhibition in November 2013.
The Film Benefit raises funds for the acquisition and preservation of great film works, as well as providing support for upcoming film exhibitions at MoMA. Previous honorees include Tilda Swinton, Quentin Tarantino, Pedro Almod髒ar, Kathryn Bigelow, Tim Burton, and Baz Luhrmann.
