HONG KONG.- The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and M+, Hong Kongs future museum for visual culture, announced today the launch of a new acquisition fund for the museum, totalling $5 million HKD. The Brown Family Annual Acquisition Fund has been generously donated by Hong Kong artist and collector Rosamond Brown.
The donation has been conceived to give M+ the opportunity to acquire works for the growing collection at international art fair Art Basel in Hong Kong. It will be divided over the next decade, from the 2014 edition of the fair onwards.
Lars Nittve, Executive Director, M+, said, This is a gift which will keep giving every year. Being split annually means acquisitions will always be current, and allows us to take advantage of the art fair, offering access to work by artists from all over the world.
Michael Lynch, CEO, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, said, The generous donations and support which M+ receives from the local arts community speaks volumes about the ambition of Hong Kongs visual arts sector, which continues to develop and come together at a rapid pace. These important contributions are helping us build a new kind of museum for Hong Kong and Asia.
Rosamond Brown, said, Having lived in Hong Kong for over 50 years, I have experienced first hand the rapid growth of the arts sector. M+ has dramatically changed the cultural landscape, and already provides an essential platform for the local arts community. Im delighted that our family is able to play a part in building such an important project.
