SARASOTA, FL.- Season of Sculpture presents Season VII’s “Shared Ground: Eight Artists, Eighteen Installations.” This curated, biennial bay front exhibition featuring eighteen large-scale works by eight highly acclaimed artists of regional, national and international renown, are being exhibited throughout Sarasota, Florida’s stunning downtown Bayfront Park from November 16, 2013 through May 2014

“Shared Ground” presents sculpture by Heinz Aeschlimann, Hans Van de Bovenkamp, Robert Chambers, Richard Herzog, Linda Howard, Jun Kaneko, Jae-Hyo Lee, and Boaz Vaadia. The co-curators are Fayanne Hayes and Andrew Maass.

Visitors have six months to view and interact with these monumental outdoor installations in a spectacular waterfront setting. The exhibition is free and open to the public 24/7. Public educational programs and docent-led tours will be offered.

A satellite exhibition of the artists’ smaller works will be exhibited at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune building at 1741 Main Street in downtown Sarasota from January 7th through May 2014.

Taken from the Curatorial Statement: Using a variety of interpretive styles, innovative techniques and materials, including bronze, steel, stone, clay, concrete and wood, the artists of Season of Sculpture present an exciting range of aesthetic and conceptual perspectives based upon diverse social and cultural influences.

The artists range from “masters” who, for decades, have been recognized for expanding the language of three-dimensional art, to new generations of artists exploring new materials and techniques while presenting alternative social, environmental and global perspectives relevant to our evolving culture.

Rather than present a single theme, or even a thematic approach, “Shared Ground” offers the viewing public a multiplicity of thoughts, approaches and techniques to explore.

The aim of this exhibition is to present art that will inspire and delight audiences, stimulate learning and thought, ignite lively dialogue, and raise awareness of the importance of public art and its ability to transform, enhance and inform a community.

Season of Sculpture is a local not for profit, 5O1 [c] 3 organization that produces a biennial, international exhibition of large-scale sculptures along the bay front of one of the world’s most culturally rich and naturally beautiful cities, Sarasota, Florida. The organization focuses its free, public exhibitions on the monumental work of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists, periodically including the work of renowned local artists.

The mission of Season of Sculpture is to enrich the cultural and educational experience of residents and visitors. The organization relies on donors, sponsors, volunteers and artists to bring these nationally acclaimed international invitational exhibitions to Sarasota. With enormous support from these groups, Season of Sculpture not only presents fine works of art to the community, but also rich opportunities to learn about public art along with the individual works on display.
