LONDON.- Today, 22 March 2013, the Science Museum welcomed its three millionth visitors of the year and celebrated the highest number of annual visitors to the Museum since complete records began.

A surprise welcome by the Museum’s Deputy Director Heather Mayfield greeted the 3 millionth visitors on arrival at the Museum. Anthony and Abigail Kirwan from Newbury, Berkshire were presented with flowers and gifts to mark this special occasion.

The Museum’s previous highest figure of 2.92 million visitors was recorded during the 2011-12 financial year. Visitor numbers continue to rise at the Science Museum thanks to award winning new exhibitions such as Codebreaker – Alan Turing’s Life and Legacy, innovative events including a zombie festival and special displays such as the world’s first Bionic Man.

Heather Mayfield, Deputy Director of the Science Museum , London , says: ‘We are delighted to welcome our 3 millionth visitor this year to the Museum. Innovative programming, imaginative use of collections, hard-working staff and volunteers have all contributed to this milestone, made possible through a combination of public and private funding. We hope to build on this success in the coming year with many more exciting new exhibitions and events, including the highly anticipated Media Space.’

As the home of human ingenuity, the Science Museum ’s world-class collection of over 200,000 three dimensional objects forms an enduring record of scientific, technological and medical achievements from across the globe. Welcoming over 2.9 million visitors a year, the Museum aims to make sense of the science that shapes our lives, inspiring visitors with iconic objects, award-winning exhibitions and incredible stories of scientific achievement.
