TEL AVIV.- The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is opening a major exhibition of the works of the Israeli-French artist Absalon. The exhibition, opens March 1 and runs through July 2013, has been undertaken by guest curator Susanne Pfeffer, a curator at the KW, Berlin.

This will be the first presentation of works by Absalon in Israel since his death in 1993. Following its presentation in Berlin, Rotterdam and São Paolo this historic exhibition, to be held at the Helena Rubinstein Pavilion for Contemporary Art, will survey Absalon's three-dimensional works, drawings and video units.

Absalon's oeuvre recalls classic modernist architecture and shows analogies to Russian Constructivism, De Stijl and Bauhaus buildings that are ubiquitous in Tel Aviv—the White City. We believe that showing Absalon's works in the heart of the White City will evoke a new and fascinating dialogue between his works and the Bauhaus architecture that surrounds the exhibition space.

"I can’t see myself living outside the city, given that all my life is in the city, and secondly for this confrontation with other architecture which the city provides. I think of it rather like a virus in the city, because of its whiteness, because of its different way of existing and because of its different proposition…"

Absalon was a promising artist and managed to create an amazing oeuvre of works in the 6 years that he has been active. Since his death his works have been displayed in Museums around the world and are in the most important collections. The works in the exhibition are taken from various Museums such, Hamburger Bahnhof, CAPC Musée d´Art Contemporain, [mac] Marseille and many more.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue in English and Hebrew. The articles are written by Susanne Pfeffer, curator of the exhibition, Moshe Ninio, Philip Ursprung and Bernard marcadé as well as preface by Suzanne Landau. The exhibition is designed by Michael Gordon, who designed Absalon's early catalogues.
