LONDON.- ING Commercial Banking awarded Owen Bullet with the £5,000 ING Prize for his sculpture Divided Self IV at the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition. They also awarded the £1,000 ING Staff Purchase Prize to Betty Fraser Myerscough for her work The Barbican, a machine embroidered print. The Discerning Eye Founder’s Prize of £2,500, awarded by the Discerning Eye, an educational charity which encourages a wider understanding and appreciation of the visual arts, was presented to Ray Richardson for two oil paintings, Buttercup and Ferg Kelly.

The ING Discerning Eye exhibition is a show of small works independently selected by six prominent figures from the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics. The distinguished panel of selectors have each curated one section of the exhibition, drawing their own selection from works submitted by artists and the works of artists they have personally invited to exhibit. The result is six smaller exhibitions within one, each with very distinct personalities.

The 2012 selectors are: Artists, Albert Irvin RA, English Abstract Expressionist painter celebrating his 90th birthday this year and Chantal Joffe, London based figurative artist; Collectors, Doris Lockhart Saatchi, Influential Collector who created the original Saatchi Collection with former husband Charles Saatchi and Gerald Walker, CEO, ING Commercial Banking UK, Ireland and Middle East; and critics Charles Darwent, Writer and Art Critic, The Independent on Sunday and Skye Sherwin, Writer and Art Critic, The Guardian.

The uniqueness of having each work chosen by an eminent individual, unlike in a group selected show, has earned the exhibition an excellent reputation among art lovers and collectors alike. The charm of the ING Discerning Eye exhibition lies in the unpredictability and variety of the selectors' choices. Works of lesser-known artists hang alongside those of more established artists helping to connect hundreds of new artists with new audiences.

Works in Print, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture and Photography by approximately two hundred artists will be on display at the Mall Galleries, London SW1 until 25 November 2012.
