PARIS.- From September 10-15, just before the new auction season opens in Paris,
Sothebys will be offering a succulent overview of the Autumn programme with a ground-breaking exhibition at the Galerie Charpentier, featuring varied selection of works from all sale departments.
Contrasting styles, in a variety of settings with innovative presentation, will showcase the most important furniture, objets dart and paintings from Sothebys Paris autumn sales. Each presentation will create a different ambiance reflecting a style or period associating works carefully selected by Sothebys specialists.
These presentations will aim to create a dialogue between the works themselves. Contemporary paintings by Simon Hantaï and Jacques Villeglé will hang above a Régence desk attributed to BVRB, itself topped by a Qianlong cloisonné enamel incense-burner. A Kota reliquary and Fang figure from Gabon will be displayed on parchment cabinets by Jean-Michel Frank, beneath works by Andy Warhol and facing 16th century bronzes attributed to Germain Pilon, and a 19th century silver and pietradura bowl on stand.
The exhibition will see Sothebys main viewing hall transformed into a contemporary Cabinet of Curiosities, recreating the mood of a 1970s lounge with an audacious blend of styles and genres.
Sothebys invite connoisseurs and collectors to discover this new approach to interior decoration, with works of art removed from their historical context. This is an exhibition that will intrigue, astonish and enchant!
