SHANGHAI.- The Shanghai Fine Jewellery and Art Fair - the most prestigious international fine art fairs in Greater China - is set to return to Shanghai for its 3rd edition from 3-11 November 2012, with a private view on 2nd November (and a gala dinner on 3 Nov to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Shanghai Museum).

The Shanghai Fine Jewellery and Art Fair is no ordinary event; it brings together a carefully selected group of the finest jewellers, modern and contemporary art, archaeology and antique dealers from around the world. The fair is uniquely positioned as the only international fine art fair in Greater China. Featuring masterpieces from Van Dyck to Picasso the past two SFJAF events attracted huge media coverage in China as well as interest from individual and institutional collectors from across China, and Asia.

With a global share of 41%, China is now the number one art market in the world. Its new wealthy consumers are well known for their strong buying power for collectable art, antiques and fine jewellery. After having heavily invested in Chinese and Asian art, these consumers are now turning their attention to Western art and the celebrated SJFAF is perfectly positioned to connect collectors with the trade. Shanghai is the largest city in China and is the busiest container port in the world. Located in the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China, Shanghai is also the commercial and financial centre of mainland China. Alongside its two neighbouring provinces (Zhejiang and Jiangsu) it is the richest region of China with the biggest number of billionaires.

Promising to attract the wealthiest buyers, a carefully targeted direct marketing and specialised media campaign has been launched to ensure the presence of professional collectors and galleries to and from the Far East and Asia region. Local financial institutions, exclusive clubs, associations and Professional Course Alumnae will entice high-net worth individuals to attend. To strengthen the media coverage for SFJAF further, the organiser has signed up Premium Media Partners including The Wall Street Journal, Luxury Properties, Jet Asia Pacific, Boating, Elite and Sina.com.

To ensure the smooth-running of the fair, the organising team have now joined forces with the MeOrient Group which is one of the leading exhibition organisers based in Shanghai. MeOrient enjoys strategic support from various Government departments, which is crucial for the success of shows in China. As a result the fair has secured permissions from the ministry of commerce and the ministry of culture for goods to be imported on a temporary importation basis (without payment of a deposit to bring the goods in) so that they can be sold and custom cleared at the fair directly.

The SFJAF is now one of the most important Shanghai society events. There will be a wide range of activities including a Gala Dinner organised by the China Culture Exchange Foundation (a Foundation under the ministry of culture) inviting the directors of universities and museums from around China, as well as a Young Collectors’ Club and a Committee of Honour. The World Chinese Collectors Association is also organising a forum.

Coinciding with the Shanghai Museum’s 60th Anniversary (during which a very important Song and Yuan Dynasty painting exhibition is organised and a conference including curators from museums from around China and around the world) the SFJAF 2012 provides a unique opportunity for dealers to meet clients and collectors from all over China and Asia.
