Gagosian Gallery announces participation at the ArtRio International Art Fair

NEW YORK, NY.- Gagosian Gallery announced its inaugural participation in the ArtRio International fair in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on September 12-16, 2012. This will be Gagosian Gallery's first presentation in Brazil and will include major works by today's leading artists and modern masters.

Gagosian Gallery will have a dual presence at the fair, with a booth highlighting its modern and contemporary program and a sculpture exhibition in an offsite warehouse space. Both will be designed by the Brazilian designer Claudia Moreira Salles and will include artworks by Cecily Brown, Alexander Calder, John Chamberlain, Urs Fischer, Lucio Fontana, Mark Grotjahn, Andreas Gursky, Damien Hirst, Yayoi Kusama, Jeff Koons, Roy Lichtenstein, Piero Manzoni, Takashi Murakami, Marc Newson, Albert Oehlen, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Anselm Reyle, Richard Serra, David Smith, Tatiana Trouvé, James Turrell, Cy Twombly, Piotr Uklański, Franz West, and Andy Warhol.

ArtRio will coincide with the first major retrospective of Alberto Giacometti in South America, on view at the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro (MAM) until September 16. The exhibition, curated by Véronique Wiesinger, brings together 280 artworks from the Fondation Alberto et Annette Giacometti in Paris, which is represented by Gagosian Gallery.

Gagosian Gallery has organized important exhibitions by leading international artists including Diane Arbus, Francis Bacon, Georg Baselitz, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cecily Brown, John Chamberlain, John Currin, William Eggleston, Roe Ethridge, Urs Fischer, Lucio Fontana, Alberto Giacometti, Arshile Gorky, Mark Grotjahn, Andreas Gursky, Damien Hirst, Anselm Kiefer, Willem de Kooning, Jeff Koons, Yayoi Kusama, Roy Lichtenstein, Piero Manzoni, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, Jenny Saville, Cindy Sherman, Richard Serra, David Smith, Rudolf Stingel, James Turrell, Cy Twombly, Andy Warhol, Franz West, and Christopher Wool.

In the fall of 2011, Gagosian Gallery in Paris presented the exhibition "Brazil: Reinvention of the Modern," which brought together for the first time in France works by six important Neo-Concrete artists from the '60s and '70s.
