BROOKLYN, NY.- United Photo Industries announces artists, programming and vendors for the inaugural Photoville in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Free and open to the public, Photoville is part country-fair, part photography event whose centerpiece is over 30 shipping containers of exhibition space showcasing international and local talent. Photoville also includes public talks, hands-on workshops, nighttime projections and a photo dog run along with a summer food & beer garden, creating a photographic destination like no other.

Photoville will take place at the uplands of Pier 3 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, rain or shine, from June 22—July 1. Admission is free. Photoville will be open June 22, 28, and 29 from 4pm–10pm; June 23 and 30 from 11am–10pm; and June 24 and July 1 from 11am–7pm. The public is encouraged to enter Brooklyn Bridge Park at the foot of Old Fulton Street at the waterfront and to then walk south to the uplands of Pier 3.

Over 30 shipping containers will house photographic exhibitions from around the world. Participating artists and organizations include:

CONTAINER EXHIBITION: Blinded By the Light
The exhibition is all about discovery -- of emerging music photographers who are just beginning to refine their craft and their personal voice; of accomplished photographers who are only now making their work available as fine art for the first time; of unseen works that were shot decades ago but never published but more than stand the test of time. The exhibition features a body of outstanding music photography by 25 photographers who are represented by Rock Paper Photo. The featured prints span all decades from the 1960s to the present. Each print is hand-signed by the photographer and available for sale as a limited edition.

• The Magnum Foundation will present Magnum award-winner Bruce Gilden and his series "No Place Like Home: Foreclosures in America" as well as Beijing-based Sim Chi Yin, member of the VII Photo Agency Mentor Program, and her series "China's Rat Tribe," which peers into the lives of young migrant workers literally living underground in Beijing.

• In "Tent Life: Haiti," the Open Society Institute will present American photographer Wyatt Gallery, who spent a year documenting the tragic living conditions in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.

• Photo District News (PDN), the award-winning monthly magazine for the professional photographer, will present winners from The Curator, PDN’s annual platform for outstanding and undiscovered fine art. Participants include Clarissa Bonet, Tamas Dezso, Aaron Farley, Matthew Gamber, Michael Schnabel, and Lorenzo Triburgo.

• The New York Times will provide an exhibition that spans from the 9/11 disaster to the present, with emphasis on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It aims to show the scope of their toll, both at home and abroad. Participants include staff photographers Stephen Crowley, Tyler Hicks, Chang W. Lee and Joao Silva and freelancer Lynsey Addario, among others.

• 11 female photographers, including Amy Elkins, Brenda Ann Kenneally and Deborah Luster, take a look inside prisons in “Cruel and Unusual,” presented by the Dutch international platform Noorderlicht.

• In "Raskols: The Gangs of Papua New Guinea," Australian photographer Steven Dupont presents a series of portraits that explores the world of cults, custom and tribal culture in Papua New Guinea.

• Winner of the 2012 Pulse Prize, Estonian photographer Sigrid Viir delights in creating new situations that surprise, amuse, and make us feel uncomfortable, all at the same time. In "Routine Crusher," she plays around with everyday objects and understanding.

• "Work from the 2011 Tierney Fellows" showcases a group of emerging photographers, all recent recipients of the 2011 Tierney Fellowship.

• Based in Vienna, the experimental photography collective Lomography will present a collection of analog photos either inspired by or taken in New York City.

• “Phoot Camp 2012” is a group exhibition created during Phoot Camp, a creative retreat and photography workshop hosted by Laura Brunow Miner, founder of Pictory and former editor in chief of JPGMagazine.

• Feature Shoot presents "Underage: work by young photographers,” which highlights 5 young photographers who document the joys and travails of growing up; a time of first loves, experimentation, and the search for belonging.

• Brazilian artist André Feliciano has been commissioned by United Photo Industries to create an interactive art installation featuring over 3,000 of his signature fabricated “camera flowers,” with cameras blooming out of 20 varieties of plants including tulips, lilies, sunflowers and myriads. These colorful sculptures will fill a custom built greenhouse. A widely collected artist in his native Brazil, Feliciano’s installation will be the first public viewing of his work in America.

• In "Becoming Visible," Josh Lehrer has created a portrait series of homeless transgender teens using platinum and palladium printing techniques.

• High Noon Culture & Art Corp presents “Worshippers” from Chinese artist Li Hao. The work explores the lives of worshippers of Jokhang Temple, a Tibetan Buddhist temple in Lhasa.

• In "Random Interference," Lorie Novak explores the afterlife of images and the experience of looking at photographs as a disruptive encounter. The installation will include a time-based projection as well as approximately 5,000 front-page sections of The New York Times saved since March 1999 when NATO bombed Belgrade during the Kosovo war.

• The Amsterdam-based De Fotografenavond will present a group show of 28 Dutch photographers that pays tribute to women titled "The Wonder of Woman."

• Fototeca Guatemala will present "New Voices of Guatemala," an exhibition of six emerging photographers from Guatemala.

• "Documenting Maine" showcases the work by students of the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies and introduces the viewer to the unique landscape of Maine.

• Rock Paper Photo will present "Blinded By the Light," a group show of new and iconic music photography. The exhibition features the work of 25 photographers and spans the 1960s to the present.

• In "Between Destinations," American photographer Candace Gaudiani has created a series of images taken through and framed by train windows across the United States.

• Highlights from the Fotofestival Naarden are showcased in "Let's Face It." The Fotofestival Naarden is a monthlong event that helps to promote the work of contemporary Dutch photographers.

• Dumbo Arts Center will present an outdoor interactive project based on tourist photo stand-ups. Invited artists will create their own non-traditional versions, in the shape of crystalline forms, mutants, a statue of the Greek sculpture Winged Victory, and more.

• The East River Ferry is presenting a community-sourced exhibition of photos taken from East River Ferry vessels or of East River ferry vessels.

• The School of Visual Arts will present "2084", an exhibition created by UK-based art collaborative ASSEMBLY Projects.

• Work from current MFA Photography students at Parsons The New School of Design.

Photoville will also include:

• Photo Fence: This summer-long outdoor photo exhibition explorer the theme of ‘community’ and will run through August. Printed on photographic mesh by Duggal Visual Solutions and measuring more than 1000 ft in length, The Fence will be a public photographic installation like no other, with an expected audience of more than one million visitors over two and a half months during the summer of 2012. The exhibition begins at Pier 1 and continues along the walkway to the uplands of Pier 3.

• Panel Discussions and Talks: A daily schedule of artist presentations and panel discussions by leading photographers and photo industry experts. Workshops conducted by photographers, editors, and independent publishers aimed at professionals, students and families. Participants include International Center of Photography, Ed Kashi, Leica Camera, Camera Club of New York, Michael Shaw, Daylight magazine, Center for Alternative Photography, David Graham, Pete Brook, Lorie Novak and Glenn Ruga.

• Evening programming highlights the best of documentary photography and features talks on leading issues in the field. Participants include Photo District News (PDN) who is hosting an opening night party for The Curator; MediaStorm founder and executive producer Brian Storm will discuss how the digital age gives filmmakers, documentary photographers and photojournalists extraordinary and unprecedented new ways to tell stories; Adriana Teresa Letorney will showcase a selection of work by emerging women photographers from the FotoVisura community, and United Photo Industries will present juror highlights from The Fence, UPI’s summer-long outdoor photo exhibition exploring the multi-faceted theme of ‘community.’

• Photo Dog Run: A unique 800 sq. ft. dog run that includes water access, shaded areas with seating, a photo fence featuring portraits of our four-legged Kickstarter supporters, and a communal gallery where pictures of visitor’s pets will be proudly displayed. A shipping container-sized, walk-in Camera Obscura will be focused on the Photo Dog Run, providing an immersive photographic experience and a one-of-a kind view of dogs at play.

• Photoville is partnering with the NYC Food Truck Association and Brooklyn Brewery on the food & beer garden. Five food vendors will rotate daily and will include Crisp on Wheels, Coolhaus, Cruisin' Kitchen, Cupcake Crew, Eddie's Pizza, Frites n Meats, Gorilla Cheese, Kelvin Natural Slush Co, Kimchi Taco, Milk Truck, Mike n Willie's, Morris Grilled Cheese NYC, Mudtruck, Munchie Mobile, Nuchas, Palenque, Phil's Steaks, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Rickshaw Truck, Schnitzel n Things, Snap, and Valducci's.
