HONG KONG.- The second day of Sotheby’s Hong Kong Autumn Wine Sales 2011 (2 October) will feature the sale of Finest & Rarest Wines, Including the Ultimate Nine from the Bordeaux Winebank Collection at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. In total, the auction will bring to the market over 820 lots estimated at HK$62.5–88 million / US$8–11 million*

The sale will feature a selection of Château Lafite from two members of the Rothschild family (170 lots; est. HK$15-20 million / US$1.9-2.6 million) that has been stored in the cellars of the Château since production. A further highlight is a magnificent range of Five Star Provenance Bordeaux from the Bordeaux Winebank Collection (118 lots; est. HK$10-14 million / US$1.2-1.8 million) featuring the five First Growths, along with Pétrus, Ausone, Cheval Blanc and Yquem. This follows previous sales of wine from Bordeaux Winebank in Hong Kong, New York and London – all of which performed significantly over estimate. Sotheby’s is also honoured to offer four spectacular magnum lots direct from the cellars of Krug in Reims. The lots come from the 1985, 1990, 1995 and 1996 vintages with one magnum each of Krug Vintage and Clos du Mesnil from the year plus a magnum of Grande Cuvée. In addition, the auction will also include a further 15 collections from private cellars.

Serena Sutcliffe, MW, Head of Sotheby's International Wine Department said: “We are honoured to present this magnificent collection of Château Lafite from the Rothschild family. It has the greatest possible provenance having been stored at Lafite from production to sale. Opportunities for the wine drinker to acquire such stock do not come very often and it is a privilege to handle wines that have this unique ‘upbringing’.

In this sale, the Champagne connoisseur can also acquire, in one lot, three great Krug wines, the individual Clos du Mesnil, made entirely from Chardonnay, the monumental Krug vintage from the same year and the multi-vintage Grande Cuvée, the flagship Champagne of the house. Each Champagne will really ‘talk’ to you as you swirl it and let it express itself in the glass.”

Robert Sleigh, Head of Sotheby’s Asia Wine Department said: “We are delighted to have teamed up with Bordeaux Winebank to once again offer the Ultimate Nine with the Five Star Provenance assurance. Our previous sales from this collection were exceptionally well received and I have every confidence that we will once again see strong demand. There is also plenty in the sale to delight Burgundy lovers with an extraordinary four full cases of Romanée Conti 1988 on offer.”
