NEW YORK, NY.- The Fine Printed Books and Manuscripts including Americana sale realized $6,608,688/£4,236,338/€5,006,581 and was sold 79% by lot and 82% by value. The top lot of the sale was Abel Buell's new and correct map of the United States of North America, New Haven, 1784, realizing $2,098,500/£1,345,192/€1,589,772, a world auction record for a map.

The Beautiful Evidence: The Library of Edward Tufte sale realized $1,817,188/£1,164,864/€1,387,166. The top lot of the sale was Galileo Galilei's Sidereus nuncius magna, Venice: Tommaso Baglioni, 1610, realizing $662,500/£424,679/€505,725, a world auction record for Galileo's Sidereus nuncius magna.

The exceedingly rare Buell map, sold today for the first time at auction since it was printed in 1784, achieved a world auction record for a map. The first printing of the Star Spangled Banner set a world record for sheet music. These two items of legendary rarity were actively pursued by private collectors and institutions. Exceptional results were also achieved with the Dorothy Shea collection of fore-edge paintings, one of the finest in private hands and selling virtually ever lot in the collection.

The sale of the Edward Tufte Library established a new world auction record for Galileo's Sidereus nuncius magna, and numerous other authors who played a key role in ET's own scholarship, most notably William Playfair."
