SPAIN.- The Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at jointly organizing and presenting cultural projects that contribute to raising general awareness about contemporary art, especially by artists from Latin America. The first project or collaboration under this agreement is the temporary loan of 9 photographs, painting and sculptures by Latin American artists with links to abstraction and the abstract-geometric tradition.

This two year loan includes works by Lygia Clark, Gerardo de Barros, Alberto Greco, German Lorca, José Oiticica Filho, Rubens Teixeira, Victor Vasarely and Franz Weissmann and will soon be exhibited at the museum. The exhibition ¿La Guerra ha terminado? Arte en un mundo dividido 1945-1968 (Is the War Over? – Art in a Divided World 1945-1968) includes works from the collection from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. It opens on November 23rd in celebration of the museum’s 20th anniversary and the recent reorganization of the collection.

This groundbreaking agreement will also allow both institutions to work together on both short and long term but also initiate research projects related to contemporary art from Latin America.

Furthermore, the possibility of co-publishing on subjects of common interest, either in print format or via the internet, and the organization and exchange of temporary exhibitions are among the top priorities for the two institutions. Any other activities involving education and dialogue related to the common aims of the Museum and the Foundation, will also be addressed through the organization of seminars and conferences. Finally, the agreement will also be used to promote educational and research internships for professionals working for both institutions, in order to promote the exchange of experience and knowledge.
