WINSTON-SALEM, NC.- Reynolda House Museum of American Art will begin American Arts Discovery on September 1, 2009. The course is a general introduction to American art through the close study of Reynolda House's fine art collection. The six-week course serves as the foundation of the Museum's nationally recognized volunteer program, which numbers more than 200 local residents.

American Arts Discovery will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., concluding October 8, 2009. Participants will explore the relationship between American art, music and literature and the ways the art forms reflect the times in which they were created. Classes are held in the museum's auditorium and in the art studios, and students study the art on view in the historic house.

American Arts Discovery is open to people of all ages and interests, and no prior study or knowledge of art is required. Participants will find themselves intrigued, challenged and supported as they learn in the company of other lifelong learners. The cost is $55, which includes all materials. Reynolda House Museum of American Art is one of the nation's premier American art museums, with masterpieces by Mary Cassatt, Frederic Church, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia O'Keeffe and Gilbert Stuart among its permanent collection.
