SAINT LOUIS, MO.- The Saint Louis Art Museum opens today Ansel Adams in Yosemite, a presentation of nine images taken by Adams in Yosemite between 1933 and 1958.

Ansel Adams, one of the best-known photographers of the American West, generated some of his most beautiful and enduring imagery in Yosemite National Park. Located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, Yosemite captivated the legendary photographer with its beauty during his first visit as a teenager in 1916.

The prints on display in Ansel Adams in Yosemite come from two portfolios assembled in the early 1960s at the height of Adams' creative powers: Portfolio III, Yosemite Valley and Portfolio IV, What Majestic Word. These are on loan to the Museum through the generosity of Doris and David Lichtenstein.

Ansel Adams in Yosemite is curated by Eric Lutz, assistant curator of prints, drawings and photographs, and will be on view in Gallery 321 through September 13, 2009.
