SANTA FE, NM.- The Longview Museum of Art is honored to exhibition "Sense of Infinity," a new body of work by Chantal Maltais Oei on September 12th, 2009. With studios in Santa Fe, New Mexico; San Francisco, California; and Bali, Indonesia, Maltais Oei¹s is truly a global artist. After receiving
her fine art degree at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, she studied art in Italy. Recent exhibition, ³2 x 2: A Cultural Ark² featured Maltais Oei's work, traveled to museums and art centers throughout Mexico. The artist travels around the world creating art.

As arts writer and critic Hollis Walker (published in "Art in America Magazine", "ARTnews", "Sculpture") mentions in her article "Acquisitive/Inquisitive" (2008), Maltais Oei often gathers objects from around the world, creating an assemblage of cultural references, to complete
an artwork. ³Maltais Oei¹s artwork represents a journal of her journeys, but it is more than the memory book most of us create from the fodder of a trip. Instead, she integrates and synthesizes fragments of meanings attached to her latest collection of images and objects, repurposing and assigning new values to them," writes Walker.

Chantal Maltais Oei has long since been inspired by the natural world. Her art exhales a breath from the outdoors. Her newest body of work, "Sense of Infinity," is captivating. Giant bird nests painted on linen canvases, arrayed with color, hang as tall and as wide as a wall. Earthy umbers, yellows, and bold reds generate incredible warmth in Sense of Infinity. Leaves, feathers, twigs and animals peer out from Maltais Oei¹s paintings, sculptures, and photographs. The artist has voyaged for the past two years collecting trinkets from her global travels to adorn her art, serving as creative remembrances, or shrines to be venerated.

Maltais Oei's is represented in Santa Fe, New Mexico at Turner Carroll Gallery, and Galeria Omar Alonso in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Her work has been featured in several museums throughout the country.
