COLUMBUS, OH.- British artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen will visit the Wexner Center on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 pm to introduce his directorial debut, Hunger. The film has received raving reviews on the festival circuit and from the New York Times. McQueen's visit comes just before Hunger opens commercially in New York (on March 20), and the Wexner Center is his only other stop on this trip.

Hunger is a gripping and unflinching account of life in Northern Ireland’s Maze Prison focused on the events surrounding the 1981 IRA hunger strike led by Bobby Sands. McQueen’s focus on the vivid and visceral details of the inhumane atmosphere of the prison and on the physical emaciation of the lead character makes it an imagery rich experience.

The film won the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for best debut film with this first theatrical feature from McQueen. A key figure among the so-called “Young British Artists” who burst on to the art scene in the 1990s, he received the 1999 Turner Prize.
