OMAHA, NE.- On Saturday, March 21, Joslyn Art Museum will host its second annual Draw-A-Thon, a dynamic evening for art-minded, high school-aged youth. Held from 6:00-11:30 pm, Draw-A-Thon exposes participants to a variety of drawing exercises while providing a safe and secure environment for teens interested in art to meet and interact. The inaugural Draw-A-Thon event, held in March last year, welcomed 80 students to the Museum.

This year, participants will move throughout Joslyn’s galleries and classrooms while completing a circuit of drawing drills with instruction from artists Erin Blaney, Jil Bunnimit, Natalie Linstrom, Troy Muller, Paul Otero, and Iggy Sumnik. Draw-A-Thon will introduce new drawing techniques to beginners and challenge experienced young artists with a focus on essential drawing skills. Each artist/instructor will teach an aspect of their own drawing approach or creative process. These exercises will include an opportunity to draw from live models (clothed) as well as a chance to work three-dimensionally.

A highlight of this year’s event is a collaborative work of art involving ideas and images from every student and every instructor. Between each small group exercise, artists and students will gather in the fountain court to work on the group piece, building up images to create one large finished piece. The evening will end with pizza and an opportunity for participants to socialize and see the collaborative work unveiled in the Riley Gallery of Joslyn’s Criss Center for Education. The piece will remain on view to the public for several weeks after the event.
