Saint Louis Art Museum Presents Mardi Gras Indian Documentary Feb. 20

SAINT LOUIS, MO.- The Saint Louis Art Museum will present "Tootie's Last Suit," a documentary on the Mardi Gras Indians, in the Auditorium on February 20 at 7:00 pm.

The 91-minute documentary, directed by Lisa Katzman, traces the history and culture of the Mardi Gras Indians through the story of Tootie Montana, the Indians' chief for nearly 50 years.

This documentary explores the subculture of the Mardi Gras Indians, who are unique to New Orleans. It is a fantastically imaginative merging of Native American and African traditions that includes beading, drumming and ancestor worship. The Mardi Gras Indians answered 19th-century racist exclusion, embracing many disparate cultural traditions in a spirit of inclusiveness.

Tickets are $5 or $3 for Museum Members and students with valid ID.
