Christie's Open House Sale Presents Exciting Array of Post-War & Contemporary Art

NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s New York will kick off 2009 with the fourth edition of the Open House sale on January 12. This season's Open House displays an exciting array of Post-War & Contemporary Art and will include an assortment of paintings, sculpture, drawings and photographs from both well-known and emerging artists. With estimates ranging from $1,000 to $80,000, Open House is an exceptional opportunity to acquire works at a variety of price points, whether you are building an existing collection or starting anew. Among the artists featured are Joseph Cornell, Leon Polk Smith, Andy Warhol, Jack Goldstein, Richard Tuttle and Piero Dorazio.

Sale highlights include the sale’s cover lot by Leon Polk Smith, Black-White Repeat, 1953 (estimate: $35,000-45,000), a work by Joseph Cornell entitled Pascal’s Childe-Hood, 1968 (estimate: $18,000-25,000), Richard Tuttle’s No 77 One in Squares: Half-Inch Centers, 1962 (estimate: $6,000-8,000), and Piero Dorazio’s Piccolo Amor Proprio, 1962, (estimate: $30,000-50,000).

The sale will also include several works by Andy Warhol including an early, Untitled (Still-Life with Glass), circa 1956-1958 (estimate: $30,000-40,000), and two Polaroid Self Portraits from 1977 (estimate: $8,000-12,000 each). From the Collection of Robert and Jean Shoenberg is a work by Norman Bluhm, A, 1961 (estimate: $10,000-15,000), and a painting by Piero Dorazio, TI, 1975, (estimate: $15,000-20,000).
