BOISE.- Boise Art Museum has been selected to receive a gift of fifty works of art from New York collectors Dorothy and Herbert Vogel, with the help of the National Gallery of Art, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The gifts are part of a national gifts program entitled The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Fifty States, also known as The Vogel 50/50 Program. The program will distribute 2,500 works from the Vogels' collection of contemporary art throughout the nation, with fifty works going to a selected art institution in each of the fifty states. Artists whose work is being donated to Boise Art Museum include: Will Barnet, Jene Highstein Richard Nonas, Robert Barry, Bryan Hunt, Lucio Pozzi, Loren Calaway, Martin Johnson, Edda Renouf, Charles Clough Steve Keister, Edward Renouf, R.M. Fischer, Mark Kostabi, Stephen Rosenthal, Richard Francisco, Roy Lichtenstein, Christy Rupp, Michael Goldberg, Michael Lucero Pat Steir, Don Hazlitt, Forrest Myers, Daryl Trivieri, Richard Tuttle.

“We are honored to have been selected by the Vogels as trustees of the collection to represent Idaho,” said BAM’s Interim Executive Director, Melanie Fales. “It is a testament to the Boise Art Museum’s importance as an educational and cultural institution in our region. We look forward to receiving this important gift of art works for our permanent collection and preparing them for exhibition to the public within the next five years.”

The best-known aspects of the Vogel Collection are minimal and conceptual art, but these donations also explore numerous directions of the post-minimalist period, including figurative and expressionist works. Primarily a collection of drawings, the 2,500 works the Vogels are donating also include paintings, sculptures, photographs, and prints by more than 170 contemporary artists, mainly working in the United States.
