FARGO, ND.- Art on the Plains X, Plains Art Museum s tenth regional juried exhibition, opens at the Museum November 26, 2008 and runs through March 1, 2009, in the William and Anna Jane Schlossman Gallery. The exhibition, previously an annual exhibition, returns as an invigorated biennial. The exhibition accepts entries from both established and emerging visual artists from the region served by the Museum: North Dakota , Minnesota , South Dakota , Montana , and Saskatchewan and Manitoba , Canada . During the run of the exhibition, visitors may vote for the Peoples Choice Award, to be announced at the close of the show.
This years guest juror is University of Wisconsin , Madison, modern art professor T. L. Solien. Solien has participated in numerous exhibitions including at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York , the Corcoran Museum in Washington , D.C. and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. His work is in numerous university, museum and corporate collections, including Plains Art Museum , the High Museum of Art in Atlanta , the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis , the Fredrick Weismann Foundation, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. Solien earned his MFA from University of Nebraska , Lincoln and his BA from Minnesota State University Moorhead. Solien also taught at MSUM.
Solien chose 43 artists from 150 entries whose work represents a variety of media, including photography, watercolor, mixed media, oil and acrylic on canvas, clay, pastel, sculpture, blown glass and graphic arts.
North Dakota artists represented in the exhibition are: Megan Eckman, Janet Flom, Lynn Fundingsland, Mitchel Hoffart, Sarah Hultin, Ann Arbor Miller, Leila Rastegar, Sherry Lee Short, Robb Siverson and Patrick Tupa of Fargo; William Harbot and Walter Piehl of Minot; Kris Kuster of Reynolds; Wade Myszka and Jeff J. Opp of West Fargo; Jennifer Nelson of Grand Forks; and Clint Saunders of Valley City.
Minnesota artists represented in the exhibition are: Eric Bendickson, Ute Bertog, Gergory Fitz, Michael Kareken, Heidi J. Prenevost and Kenneth Wenzel of Minneapolis; Kim Benson, Joan Cox and Daniel Kaniess of St. Paul; David Danielson of Roseau; Dan Eastman of Winona; Rachel Hovelson and Kelli Sinner of Moorhead; Shannon D. Johnson of St. Cloud; Michelle Johnson of Mankato; Linda Deg Lee of Minnetonka; Molly Martancik of Duluth; Stephanie Molstre-Kotz of Rosemount; Sam Spiczka of Sartell; and Michon Weeks of Marshall.
Julia Becker of Great Falls and Mary C. Suzy Holt of Helena represent Montana artists.
South Dakota artists are Diana Behl and Tim Steele of Brookings and Doris Rudel of Rapid City .
Ken Dalgarno of Moosejaw represents Saskatchewan , Canada artists.
Cash awards will be announced at a public reception on Saturday, December 6, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The reception includes a gallery talk by Solien, hors doeuvres and music by Stage Door Johnny. Museum members attend free and can bring a guest. Nonmembers are $10 each.
