Nehring Gallery Hosts NIU Printmakers "Predictions & Premonitions: Stage II" Exhibit

DEKALB, IL.-Nehring Gallery in downtown DeKalb will host an exhibition of work by the Northern Illinois University printmakers, “Predictions & Premonitions: Stage II”. The exhibition on display through February 22 and will showcase the work of 19 printmakers, including undergraduates, graduates, alumni, and faculty. The opening reception on Tuesday, February 19 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. will be preceded by comments from the artists at 4:00 p.m.

This showing continues the theme of past, present, and future that was explored in the first exhibition, “Predictions & Premonitions” held this past fall at the Pearl Street Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. The theme, which was developed by graduate printmaker, Michael McGovern allowed each student to concentrate on a semi- science fiction theme, while working within and developing their own personal styles. The NIU printmakers work alongside each other in the campus art building and in a studio in Sycamore, “creating our prints, sharing ideas, philosophies and energy” says assistant professor of fine arts, Michael Barnes. Creating this collaborative exhibition allows the artists to showcase the diversity of focus and style even within this small printmaking community.

Predictions & Premonitions: Stage II is open and free to the public during regular gallery hours on Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Saturday from 1 - 5 p.m. or by appointment. Nehring Gallery is located on the second floor of the Nehring Center for Culture and Tourism in the historic First National Bank building. The gallery is cooperatively operated by the DeKalb Park District and the Northern Illinois University College of Visual and Performing Arts Division of Outreach. A handicap accessible entrance is available and located at the 111 S Second Street entrance.
