MIAMI, FL.-Miami Art Group Gallery officially launched its 2008 winter season with an artist reception with James Kitchen on January 12, 2008 at its gallery location in Miami’s hip Design District. James Kitchens is an innovative artist who’s works on copper are quickly becoming a favorite of collectors across the United States.

The show, titled Myth and Metaphor, explored a variety of symbols as metaphor, integrating images from sources as varied ad the myths that inspire much of the artwork.
From the flames of the alchemic vessels, to the elegance and simplicity of the Zen Circle with its promise that something unseen is about to make itself present. Just as myths provide a reference to something in our own nature, Kitchens’ work provides a missor for the viewer to see their own lives within a greater mythological context. Using pigments on loan from the Earth and manipulated only enough to mate with bare copper, Kitchens’ sculptures are as much alchemy as artwork. The copper body of each piece is birthed at purifying temperatures in which humans would not survive.

The reception attracted nearly 800 art enthusiasts which, in turn, resulted in most of the show selling out. “James’ wall sculptures have that special “something” that connects to people on an emotional level. The rawness and spectacular colors of his works on copper speak to people so much that they have to purchase it and live with it”, says gallery owner Dustin Benge.
