From Constable to Cézanne: Recent Nineteenth-century Acquisitions |
BIRMINGHAM, UK.- The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, University of Birmingham, presents From Constable to Cézanne: Recent Nineteenth-century Acquisitions. The nineteenth century was a period of great artistic ferment and innovation, and saw profound changes in printmaking trends and techniques and in attitudes towards the medium. This display explores that revolution in print production, and features a landscape by Constable’s principal engraver, David Lucas, satirical periodical illustrations by Daumier, and a self-portrait by Cézanne, among others. Complementing the exhibition Exceptional Beauty and Outstanding Merit, it also highlights works added to the Barber’s permanent collection under the directorship of Richard Verdi.
