The Gabarrón Foundation in the United States has established its headquarters in the Carriage House, a unique and beautiful meeting place in Manhattan, as the Gabarrón Foundation Carriage House Center for the Arts. As such, it provides a forum for artistic and cultural presentations, and a bridge between the Spanish and American worlds.

The Gabarron Foundation was founded in New York as a non for profit organization in 2002 by the Spanish artist Cristobal Gabarron and famous New Yorker mediator Theodore (Ted) W. Kheel, who is the Chairman of the Foundation. Artist Gabarrón has devoted his life, “to the creation and promotion of art and culture. The convergence of many diverse Hispanic cultures formulating an identity based upon a common language and love of native lands is reshaping life in America. We hope to advance the art and interchange of cultures of this historic development.”

Theodore W. Kheel, for more than half a century, resolved the City's thorniest labor disputes. The New York Times declared him to be "the most influential peacemaker in New York City in the last half century." Ted Kheel assisted the artists, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, in obtaining permission for them to create and display their Gates Project in Central Park for sixteen days in February of 2005.

The Cristóbal Gabarrón Foundation, was created in 1992, as a private, non-profit organization established “to preserve and spread culture using art, science, and research,” on the basis of the ideals, aims, and concerns of the artist. The Foundation gives international awards to deserving recipients worldwide for artistic, cultural, scientific and other intellectual achievements. Recipients have included the American artist Rosenquist, the English sculptor Caro, the Peruvian writer Vargas Llosa, and the Russian musician Rostropovich. The Foundation has also established a museum of the same name in the historic city Valladolid in north-western Spain. The museum houses artwork from around the world. Three years ago, the Foundation has also established a museum of contemporary culture in the artist’s native town in Murcia in the southeast of Spain.

Artists on the Show:

Nicolás Munuera (Lorca, 1974) - After finishing his studies, which he carried out in Valencia and Paris, this young artist has set his work within a markedly abstract tendency, broken by his use of the horizon line. Monochromatic backgrounds and the small thin lines of a limited color scheme give his works a great plastic beauty.

Ana Martínez (Murcia, 1975) - With a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad de Granada, she completed her studies in different painting workshops both nationally and internationally. She has received some of the most important awards for young artists.

Eva Poyato (Cartagena, 1972) - With her degree in Fine Arts from the ‘San Carlos’ School of Fine Arts at the Universidad Politécnica of Valencia, she has a Masters in Graphic Works from the C.I.E.C. Foundation of Betanzos (A Coruña). She has held exhibitions in Murcia, Chicago, Alicante, Madrid, Salamanca, Almería, Madrid, A Coruña, Pontevedra and at the Estampa Graphics Fair (Madrid).

Virginia Bernal (Cartagena, 1970) - Receiving her degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad de Valencia, the extensive career of this young photographer has been influenced by film in all facets of her work, as can be seen in the numerous references to film in all her works. Her photographs and video creations possess a measured melancholy.

Rosa García Moreno (Palma de Mallorca, 1981) - Currently completing her degree in Fine Arts at the Universidad de Barcelona and a post-graduate course in sculpture, Off Massana. Her training also includes a Higher Degree in Sculpture in Llotja, as well as a course in Theatrical Machinery, thus complimenting her work in set design and installations. This training has been accompanied by exhibitions and work with various groups (Divers, Dar de Rien, Flickbook), allowing her to develop a personal line within an exploration of collaborative work.

Nicolás Rojas Hayes (Bogotá, Colombia, 1982) - Currently lives and works in Barcelona. Completing his studies of Fine Arts at the Universidad de Barcelona, he has participated in several group initiatives (“Aterrizaje Forzoso” [Forced Landing] BAC! CCCB. Barcelona. 2002; “Tots els Continents a Gràcia”. Barcelona. 2004). After his initial interest in painting, followed by work in sculpture, his studies have led him towards interdisciplinary work and the search for his own language.

Simon Krantz - Was born in Cordoba, Argentina, 1979, but while still a child, moved to Jerusalem in Israel. Currently he lives and works in Barcelona. This diversity of settings has given him the possibility of participating in group exhibitions in a variety of countries. He is finishing his studies in industrial design at the Escola Massana, thus complementing his earlier studies in sculpture and photography.

Pedro Guirao (Murcia, 1972) - Achieved his degree in Fine Arts from the San Carlos School of Fine Arts, in Valencia and the Ecole Nacional Superirure Des Arts Visuels de la Cambre in Brussels. Among his solo exhibitions, the recently held shows at the Turku Biennial (Finland) “Diary (13/03/07)” and “Radioretrato” [Radio Portrait] at Espirelia Arte, Lorca (Murcia) stand out.

Eduardo Balanza (Murcia, 1971) - With his diploma in audiovisual media, he continued and broadened his studies in Cuba and the United States. In recent years he has developed a body of work based on the analysis and expropriation of images generated by the media, with a particular interest in the proliferation of icons that associate violence with fashion.

Sara Serrano López (Murcia, 1974) - She usually works in the field of stage design, directing projects presented in the cities of Murcia, London, and Oslo, among others. As an extension of her artistic propositions, she has made incursions in the field of installation and multimedia. Among her works, one of which is based on Lewis Carroll’s Alice stands out; it has been developed in different cities in the form of a theatrical play, an installation and a performance.

Ramón González Palazón (Mula, 1977) - He studied at the School of ‘Artes y Oficios’ in Murcia (1993-1998) and took his degree in Fine Arts from the San Carlos School of Fine Arts of Valencia (1998-2003). In 2001 he left for Caracas, Venezuela with a study grant to carry out a project at the Instituto Universitario de Artes Plásticas “Armando Reverón” under the supervision of the visual artist Luis Lizardo and where he discovered an interest in the primitive and symbolic drawing of the region. He currently resides in Mula, where he teaches visual arts at a high school.

David d´Loruiz (Totana, Murcia, 1983) - Already considered one of the most promising artists from Murcia of his generation, he now begins his professional career. At 23, d’Loruiz has already won some of the most important awards for emerging artists in the Region (Creajoven an
