The Nunnery To Present Fairyland

LONDON.- The Nunnery will present Fairyland, on view 4th – 12th August, 2007. Curated by Helene Sorensen and Sarah Byrne. This is a chance to see new work by four emerging artists who have worked together informally since graduating from Central Saint Martin College of Art in 2005. In the show the artists use the concept of Fairyland as an artistic device to navigate different states of consciousness.

The simple beauty and poetry of Eleni Anats’ photographs juxtapose one reality and another, visible and invisible, the ethereal and the tangible; in other words the physically present and the subtlety of what cannot easily be perceived by the five senses.

In the old part of the Nunnery with its arched roof Oliver Vilcans’ works are an elaborately disturbing vision of beauty. Drawings, sculpture and photography take us on a journey into the uneasy exploration of the artist’s mind. At another level Sorensen & Byrne’s humorous installation with postal parcels in a pastoral setting explores and deconstructs how travel and immigration impact the individual’s personal and social identity, raising conscious awareness and stimulating reflective debate.
