PARIS.- The exhibition brings together individual and collective artistic practices which, while situated in a range of territories the countryside, the mountains, islands are all rooted in a choice to work beyond urban centres.
The exhibitions title, which is borrowed from a work by Gina Proenza (Toi et ta bande), points to the many groups whose work is gathered here: artist collectives, high school students, choirs, communities for life, work and activism a host of forms that reflect upon different ways of being together. The three dozen works presented in the exhibition, many of which have been produced for the occasion, have all taken shape in unique territories, including Brittany, the Cévennes, Corsica, Guadeloupe, the Hautes-Pyrénées, Limousin and the Basque Country.
The exhibition explores the concept of topophilia: an affective state that links people to spaces in a relationship enriched by different strands of ecological, social and territorial thought. This approach traces out the contours of new artistic geographies, where critical and poetic concepts develop and subtly infuse works of art, ways of working and material conditions of existence. The invited spaces and artists suggest, through their work, a range of modes of collective organisation and political aspirations, in communities that are sometimes fugitive but always open and driven by a sense of solidarity.
