BATON ROUGE, LA.- The Louisiana Art & Science Museum will present Reflections: The Art of George Rodrigue, a landmark exhibition celebrating the life, artistry, and enduring legacy of one of Louisiana's most influential artists. Opening Saturday, August 15, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the remarkable evolution of George Rodrigue's career, from his early Cajun-inspired paintings to the internationally acclaimed Blue Dog series that captivated audiences around the world.

Organized by the George Rodrigue Life & Legacy Foundation, Reflections showcases a diverse selection of Rodrigue's work, including paintings from his celebrated swamp dog series, portraits of Hollywood icons, and distinctive works on metal and chrome. Together, these pieces reveal Rodrigue's lifelong commitment to storytelling and his deep connection to Louisiana's landscapes, culture, and traditions. “George Rodrigue's art invites us to slow down and look more closely, not only at the Blue Dog, but at ourselves," said LASM Curator and Director of Art Programs, Tracey Barhorst. "Reflections creates a space where visitors can explore memory, identity, and perspective through the unique ‘canvases’ of one of Louisiana's most recognizable artists.”

Throughout its run, Reflections: The Art of George Rodrigue will be accompanied by educational programming, public lectures, docent training, and family-friendly events designed to engage visitors of all ages.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, August 15, with Studio Saturday: Reflections at 10:00 AM. Led by LASM Assistant Curator & Museum Preparator Beth Welch, this hands-on workshop introduces participants to acrylic painting while exploring George Rodrigue's vibrant artistic style. Guests will create original artwork inspired by Louisiana's landscapes, culture, and traditions. The workshop is $40 ($20 for LASM members), and all supplies are included.

Later in the month, LASM will welcome Wendy Rodrigue Magnus—motivational speaker, author, and founder of the George Rodrigue Life & Legacy Foundation—for a series of special Blue Dog programs. "George’s fascination with reflective surfaces began with his love for automotive design and metal signs in the 1950s and continued later when we unveiled giant Blue Dog paintings on mirrored surfaces in children’s hospitals," said Magnus. This exhibition invites viewers, through reflection, to become part of his imaginary world. I’m excited to return to Baton Rouge, a city we both loved, and share this unique, vibrant installation.”





On Tuesday, August 25, at 10:00 AM, Magnus will lead the first of three exclusive guided tours of Reflections: The Art of George Rodrigue, with additional tours offered on Wednesday, August 26, and Thursday, August 27, at 10:00 AM. each day. These intimate tours offer visitors a rare opportunity to explore George Rodrigue's artistic process, inspirations, and cultural legacy through the perspective of someone who knew the artist best.

That evening, on Tuesday, August 25, from 6:00 – 7:30 PM, LASM will present Art After Hours: Back to School with Blue Dog, an evening celebrating both the exhibition and the start of the school year. During the program, Magnus will share personal stories about George Rodrigue's life, creative journey, and enduring artistic legacy. Admission is free for educators and LASM members.
