New Life and the Dream Garden.
|
LONDON, ENGLAND.- Fieldgate Gallery will present New Life and the Dream Garden, curated by BasementArtProject.com. This vibrant group exhibition brings together recent and newly commissioned works by 12 international emerging artists, six UK-based and six from abroad. Drawing inspiration from Thomas Mores 16th century book, the show is a satirical reflection of contemporary life cast in the form of the elusive search for the fantastical utopian dream. The view shifts from a focus on unattainable idealism to an exploration of the real world. In migrating and relocating to these new territories, the artists vainly constructed dream gardens can only collapse looking towards ou topos (no place), ultimately mirroring our society.
BasementArtProject.com is a contemporary art network run by London-based artist, Yu-Chen Wang. BasementArtProject.com uses the online project space to collaborate with international artists and develop progressive work, as well as organises events and exhibitions across the UK and Europe. A series of activities on the preview evening will include performances by Para-Site Theatre Company, Helen Arney, and John Milroy; Utopian Map Project (including work by Sebastian Lowsley-Williams, Cyril Lepetit, Maurice Bogaert and Matthew Draper); text by Grae Cleugh and The Callas live gig. Exhibition catalogue launch and artists talk will take place Saturday 5th May 2007 2-6pm.
