MADRID.- Main highlights of CentroCentro’s exhibition programme for the second half of 2026:

Avelino Sala: The Tempest
April 16–September 20, 2026

The Tempest (La tempestad) is the first institutional monographic exhibition in Madrid devoted to Avelino Sala (Gijón, 1972), a leading Spanish exponent of art as a vehicle for resistance. Through ten installations—most of them created specifically for this show—Sala reflects on the symbolic mechanisms of power, memory, and contemporary conflicts, questioning dominant discourses and inviting visitors to imagine alternative narratives. Curator: Semíramis González. Co-produced with LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, Gijón, Spain

María Lara: The Slowness of Light
June 25–November 15, 2026

The Slowness of Light (La lentitud de la luz) is the first institutional exhibition in Madrid by María Lara (Loja, Granada, 1940), who has long been considered a ‘secret painter’. Bringing together nearly 40 paintings and drawings produced over the last twenty-five years, the exhibition highlights her meticulous exploration of geometry, colour, and the shifting qualities of light. Curator: Armando Montesinos

Cruz Novillo: Art Is a One-Way Trip
October 8, 2026–January 24, 2027

Conceived in collaboration with the artist a year before his recent passing, this exhibition dedicated to José María Cruz Novillo (1936-2026) offers an exhaustive survey of nearly seven decades of a practice that dismantled the boundaries between graphic design and the visual arts. The show tracks his career from 1965 to 2024, celebrating Cruz Novillo as a creator of artworks, a pioneer of visual identity in Spain and a conceptual artist whose fundamental medium was the idea. Curators: Pepe Cruz Novillo Jr. and Elena Fernández

Juana González: Untamed Painting
October 22, 2026–April 18, 2027

Untamed Painting (Indómita pintura) is the first institutional exhibition in Madrid dedicated to Juana González (Puertollano, 1972). Gathering large-format paintings that expand beyond the edges of the canvas, the show incorporates complex sculptural and installation pieces for the first time, which enter into a conversation both with one another and with the space’s architecture. The layout immerses visitors in the artist's Baroque and post-Surrealist universe, where two forces coexist: the dimension of form and the narrative. Curator: Fernando Castro Flórez

The Moment Is a Living Seed
October 22, 2026–April 18, 2027

This group exhibition brings together site-specific works by eight emerging artists working in Madrid. Comprising sculptures, paintings and temporary installations, the pieces spark reflection on artistic practice as a state of transit—indeterminate, latent, and in flux. Artists: Rubén Ojeda Guzmán (Oaxaca, 1991), Adela Angulo (Madrid, 1999), Livia Daniel (Alicante, 1989), Julieta Hsiung (Suzhou, China, 1997), Natalia Cardoso García (Málaga, 1992), José Casas (Girona, 1995), Maya Pita-Romero (Madrid, 1999), Pablo Quesada (Valencia, 2001). Curator: María García Marqués

Carlos Franco: Across the Ridge of a Landscape with Legs
December 16, 2026–May 16, 2027

CentroCentro presents a significant selection of Carlos Franco’s (Madrid, 1951) recent work, focusing primarily on paintings and prints produced over the last fifteen years. The exhibition maps the artist’s universe: a living ecosystem shot through with mythology where drawing takes centre stage and colour takes on a unique dimension. The works on display include previously unexhibited pieces born from the deconstruction and recomposition of large-format paintings created between 2018 and 2026. Curator: Liliana Ang

In addition, CentroCentro will feature two new projects that delve into the intimate underlying creative histories of visual artists in Madrid: Give Me Your Hands: An Archive of Female Creators (Me das tus manos. Archivo de mujeres creadoras), a sculptural and artistic research project by Elena Jiménez that uses plaster casts to gather the physical handprints of contemporary female artists and creators; and Private Collection (Colección particular), an exploration by Teresa Moro of her personal encounters with Madrid-based artists, captured through the objects, spaces, and narratives that emerged in their studios. Both projects will be open to the public from October 22 2026 to April 18 2027.

In November 2026, CentroCentro will host the first institutional solo exhibition dedicated to the work of Laura Lio (November 12, 2026–March 14, 2027). Additionally, the site-specific installation programme EPICENTRO will showcase the work of Isabel Gómez Liebre (July 8–August 30, 2026) and Carlos Cartaxo (September 9–October 18, 2026).
