Markus Linnenbrink, COLORADO, EPIDAURUS, GREECE III, 1994. Watercolor on paper, 8 x 11 1/2 inches,
20.3 x 29.2 cm.

NEW YORK, NY.- Markus Linnenbrink’s practice on paper has remained a core element of his creative output alongside his well-known epoxy resin pieces throughout his career. We are pleased to showcase for the first time ever, a selection of these detailed paper-based compositions dating from the 1990s to early 2000s which were made au plein air in summers spent across Spain, Germany, Italy, and Greece.

Inspired by the hues of the landscape of his travels across Europe, Linnenbrink’s sense of color and movement is a core aspect of these watercolors on paper. An atmosphere of airiness is produced by the delicate veils of color, and subtle natural tones, evoking a powerful feeling of capturing the moment. His unique material language emerges through balancing chance, control and the nature of the watercolor medium. Employing bleeding lines of colors that merge to produce a harmonious sense of motion, Linnenbrink’s technique mirrors the style of his “Drip” paintings.

Markus Linnenbrink (b. 1961 in Dortmund, Germany) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Berlin, Germany and the Gesamthochschule, Kassel, Germany. Linnenbrink’s work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Es Baluard Museu d’Art Contemporani de Palma and Casal Solleric, Palma, Spain; Fundación DIDAC, Santiago de Compostela, Spain; Galería Max Estrella, Madrid, Spain; Miles McEnery Gallery, New York, NY; Museum of New Art, Portsmouth, NH; Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum, Philadelphia, PA; Patricia Sweetow Gallery, San Francisco, CA; and Taubert Contemporary, Berlin, Germany, among others.
