LONDON.- Serpentine is seeking an experienced interdisciplinary curator to lead and develop its Live Programme, a role that will shape how audiences encounter the gallery’s exhibitions through talks, performances, screenings, participatory projects and experimental formats.

The position, titled Curator, Live Programmes, is central to Serpentine’s ambition to make the gallery a site of encounter, exchange and artistic experimentation. Rather than treating live events as simply an interpretive layer around exhibitions, the role is intended to extend, interrupt and at times provoke the gallery’s curatorial vision.

The successful candidate will build on Serpentine’s established live programming strands, including the annual Marathons, Park Nights, Serpentine Cinema and Study Days. Working across disciplines, the curator will be expected to bring visual art into dialogue with dance, music, film, literature, technology, design, social practice and other fields.

Serpentine said the role matters because it offers the opportunity to expand the ways in which audiences experience contemporary art, while also creating new spaces for artists to produce and share work. The Curator, Live Programmes will work closely with the gallery’s Programmes, Production, Audience, Development and Editorial teams to create projects that are ambitious, accessible and responsive to diverse publics.

The main responsibilities include conceiving and delivering a year-round programme of live events connected to the gallery’s exhibitions, commissions and wider artistic objectives. The curator will also identify emerging and established artists, thinkers and collaborators whose work resonates across disciplines, while developing new formats for live cultural engagement.

The role carries significant production responsibility. The curator will oversee the planning and delivery of talks, performances, workshops, screenings and new event models, managing timelines, budgets, technical requirements, spatial considerations and audience experience.

Audience development is also a key part of the position. Serpentine is looking for someone able to attract new, diverse and multi-generational audiences, both onsite and online, and to experiment with participatory, immersive and socially engaged approaches to live programming.

The position will also involve building relationships with local and international artists, collectives, institutions and community partners, while contributing to broader strategic discussions around programming and audience development.

Applicants are asked to submit a CV and cover letter explaining how their skills and experience would benefit the role, giving examples of relevant work, and outlining what attracts them to the position and to Serpentine.

The deadline for applications is midnight on July 10, 2026. First-stage interviews are scheduled for the week commencing July 20, 2026, with second-stage interviews planned for the week commencing July 27, 2026.
