SAN JOSE, CA.- Kaleid Gallery presents April Featured Artists Charlotte Kruk n' Kempken and Ema Sintamarian. Opening Reception First Friday April 6th from 7pm - 9pm. - Charlotte Kruk n' Kempken, "Her, She Says...". (Sculpture and installation utilizing contemporary food packaging). Recycling Superhero, Charlotte Kruk n' Kempken transforms familiar Hershey's trash into the fantastic with four wearable sculptures in the exhibition titled "Her, She Says..." Each sculpture intellectually repositions common packaging into a statement never realized by their original maker. The goal of the artist is to transcend the ordinary into the extraordinary by reinventing a purpose for everyday discards. - Ema Sintamarian, It's ok to bother people: How could I llive without ads (Marker / ink on paper drawings).
Ema Sintamarian references the outside world hodgepodge through the informational overlapping until the point of self-annihilation and self-denial of the rendered elements. By using different cultural iconography, and by imposing and superimposing the recognizable with more abstracted similes, Sintamarian creates a matrix of polyphonic images. "In doing so, I am more interested in offering the viewer the basis for personal stories than didactical answers." April Featured Artists exhibits on view through April 28th.
Charlotte Kruk n' Kempken is most noticably recognized for her wearable sculptures, elevating consumer product detritus to fine art. Through her artwork, Kruk packages statements about the wasteful nature of a disposable society, meanwhile flirting with the psychology of advertising, brand association and dressing for each other as eye candy. While moonlighting as an artist, Kruk spends her days as a 3D/Sculpture Arts educator at Lynbrook High Schoool. Kruk's most recent exhibitions have landed work in the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, Copia in Napa, and The Kohler Arts Center in Wisconsin. Currently, Kruk is working to exonerate herself from a "cease and desist" letter sent by lawyers from the M&M/Mars Candy Company.
Ema Sintamarian was a 2006 SFMOMA SECA nominee and was recently included in the Pro Arts Juried Annual show (curated by Yerba Buena's Berin Golonu) in Oakland. Sintamarian's upcoming scheduled solo exhibits include the Jack Fischer Gallery (SF) and Rosenfeld Gallery (Philadelphia) as well as group exhibits at the Triton Museum, SJICA and Niklas Belenius Gallery in Stockholm/ Sweden.
