The Ivy Look A to Z: Graham Marsh's new visual handbook explores the roots of prep style

NEW YORK, NY.- The Ivy Look A to Z sees Graham Marsh – one of the style’s foremost authorities – break down the building blocks of a look that has quietly shaped modern menswear for over half a century.

First emerging in the Ivy League schools of America’s East Coast during the 1950s and ’60s, the Ivy Look fused polish with ease in a way that is still relevant today and it has had a lasting sartorial impact on fashion and culture. Effortless, democratic and quietly assured, it has been worn by everyone from Miles Davis to Steve McQueen and Paul Newman. Its appeal lies in an approachable correctness and laid-back confidence.

Digging deep into the archives, this visual handbook maps out the Ivy essentials and how to wear them – from Desert Boots and Loafers to Madras, Oxford Shirts, and Trench coats. Each entry is accompanied by Marsh’s original illustrations alongside period album covers, vintage advertising, film imagery and A-list Ivy icons.

The Ivy Look A to Z is a comprehensive and inspiring resource for Ivy Look enthusiasts and a must for any coffee or bedside table.

Graham Marsh is a renowned art director, illustrator and author and a global authority on the Ivy Look style. He is responsible for a numner of groundbreaking visual books, such as Denim: From Cowboys to Catwalk, The Cover Art of Blue Note Records, Volumes I and II, East Coasting, California Cool and a series of books with Tony Nourmand on movie posters. Other projects include Black Ivy: A Revolt in Style, Denim: The Fabric That Built America 1935- 1944, The Ivy Look and an illustrated children’s book, Max and the Lost Note, among many others. Graham’s illustrations have appeared in magazines, newspapers and on many CD and album covers. He is also the creator of a line of vintage Ivy style shirts for the designer Kamakura.
