Roland Auctions is presenting a rare, newly discovered prime-period metascape painting by highly acclaimed Indian Modernist painter Akbar Padamsee (1928 2020) at their upcoming Important Art and Jewelry auction on March 28th at 10am.

The never-viewed before Akbar Padamsee (India, 1928-2020) is an abstract cityscape oil on canvas, 1962, in yellows, oranges, and browns, with impasto details, in gold leaf frame, signed Padamsee to lower right with 62; likely painted in Europe while the artist was developing what would be known as his Meta Landscapes, The Art is 36" H x 26" W and framed is 45 x 33. Estimate $200,000-$300,000.
The painting had been part of a prominent New York City familys personal collection, from the estate of Elizabeth Debevoise Healy and husband Harold Harris Healy Jr, who purchased it in France in 1964 and kept it in the one family all these years, while tucked away in a sprawling East Side Manhattan apartment. As art world insiders know, Akbar Padamsee was one of the pioneers and stalwarts of Indian modern art, going to live in Paris from his native Mumbai in the early 1950s.

Roland is also offering a very rare, and very important Pablo Serrano (Spanish, 1908-1985) "St. Junipero Serra" Bronze, important modern Brutalist-style monumental bronze sculpture. Depicts a standing full-length larger-than-life depiction of Saint Junipero Serra in his hooded Franciscan cassock with bare feet and arms outstretched in an embracing gesture. Boldly signed to base "Serrano". This sculpture was featured in the courtyard of the Spanish International Pavilion of the New York World's Fair of 1964-65. Estimate $15,000-$20,000, along with a Grand Tour Venetian Murano and Micromosaic Mirror, 19th century, with alternating floral and figural cartouches comprising a scene of doves with a banner, a column with griffin capital from Saint Marks Square to left side, and San Todaro depicted to the right, over a micromosaic scene of a gondola, interspersed with elaborate floral decoration, and framed to inner and outer with etched glass panels and twisted Murano glass, estimate $6,000-$8,000.
