ANDOVER, MA.- The Addison Gallery of American Art presents Mix and Match: A Conversation between Paintings and Works on Paper, on view through April 8, 2007. The Addison's permanent collection has great breadth and depth, and many of the artists whose celebrated paintings we own were also masters of other media.
This exhibition, curated by Brian Allen, the museum's Director, includes some of the most important paintings in the collection. It also includes beautiful and rarely seen watercolors, prints, drawings, and pastels by some of the same artists. Among the artists considered are Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, James McNeill Whistler, John Singleton Copley, and Eastman Johnson. The conversation among the objects promises to be a surprising and rich one. This exhibition has been generously supported by the Bernard and Louise Palitz Exhibitions Fund.
