RM Sotheby's announces stunning early consignments heading to Monaco
Incredible early consignments include the ex-London Motor Show 1955 Aston Martin DB3S.

LONDON.- Taking place alongside the legendary Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, RM Sotheby’s returns to the Grimaldi Forum from 24-25 April 2026 for what promises to be another truly remarkable offering of some of the world’s greatest motor cars.

The Monaco sale has always attracted incredible cars from across the decades of motorsport history, and the 2026 auction is also set to feature some truly great competition machinery. The 1955 Aston Martin DB3S chassis #111 is one of only 20 customer DB3s models ever built, and a car which featured on the Aston Martin stand at the 1955 British Motor Show at Earls Court.

Widely regarded as one of the the most beautiful sports racing cars ever created, the DB3S features a 2,992-cc six-cylinder engine producing 210 brake-horsepower, and was a hugely successful model in competion, where it was driven by some of the greatest names in the history of the sport.

Exhibited on the Aston Martin stand at the 1955 British Motor Show at Earls Court, the car went on to enjoy a compelling competition history in English club races, campaigned at iconic circuits including Silverstone and Snetterton. Overall victories and podium finishes were achieved in BRSCC (British Racing and Sports Car Club) competition and SMRC (Snetterton Motor Racing Club) events. The car later became a part of the esteemed Forshaw family collection—among the preeminent Aston Martin collectors of the 1980s and 1990s—where it remained for more than 40 years.

Rebuilt, repainted, and retrimmed in the care of the Forshaw family over the course of a three-year restoration, the car boasts known ownership history with fascinating provenance, and is offered with its matching-numbers engine block. The car has been a regular entrantin in historic racing events including the Mille Miglia Storica and is an ideal contender for continued participation in the most prestigious rallies and tours. Unquestionably a cornerstone of Aston Martin’s competition history and surely the centre point of any marque collection, chassis 111 is estimated at €3,000,000 - €4,000,000.

The 1984 Toleman TG183B on offer in Monaco truly respresents the start of a legend, being the car driven by Ayrton Senna for his Grand Prix debut in 1984. Chassis TG183B-05 was exclusively raced in period by the future three-time Formula 1 World Champion, contesting four rounds the 1984 season and scoring 6th place in the South African and Belgian Grands Prix. A remarkable feat in a car which wasn’t fancied to achieve such strong results that season.

Senna won the first nine rounds of the 1983 British Formula 3 season, which earned the 23-year-old Brazilian tests with Brabham, McLaren, and Williams. But with none of those teams able to offer him a promotion into a race seat, Senna signed for Toleman, a team which evolved from winning the F2 title before entering F1 with its own car and turbocharged engine.

Appropriately for Senna, his debut came on home soil where he qualified chassis TG183B-05 just ahead of teammate, Johnny Cecotto, to land 16th on the grid for the Brazilian Grand Prix in Rio de Janeiro. Sadly, he retired on lap eight with a turbo failure. After that the team headed to South Africa, where Senna impressed by finishing in 6th place—the moment the world saw his remarkable pace and potential. Next came 6th in the Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder. Finally, TG183B-05 made its last appearance at Imola, where a turbulant qualifying session left Senna stranded on track and unable to return to the pits, missing a place on the grid as a result.

The car was initially retained by the Enstone team before being sold to the United States where it was sympathetically restored. The Toleman eventually returned to the United Kingdom, and in testament to its preservation, the car still shows “Aryton” (spelled incorrectly) on the footrest.

In 2022, Sky Sports F1 released the celebratory documentary, “The Story of Toleman’, in which chassis TG183B-05 starred in a track test at Brands Hatch, a moment thought to be its first time on a circuit since 1984. The car was driven by Martin Brundle, who famously battled with Senna for the British F3 title. Two years later, chassis TG183B-05 featured at the Silverstone Festival race meeting, lined up alongside 10 other F1 cars, junior single-seaters, karts, motorbikes, rally and road cars from throughout Senna’s life. The ensemble marked 30 years since his death at Imola in 1994. Chassis TG183B-05 will forever remain a key chapter in the Senna story and it is estimated at €2,800,000 - €3,800,000.
