DORTMUND.- Dortmunder Kunstverein announced Hendrike Nagel as the institutions new Artistic and Managing Director. She will assume the position on April 1, 2026, succeeding Rebekka Seubert, who has successfully led the Kunstverein since 2020. Nagels program will begin at the end of 2026.
With Hendrike Nagel, we gain an interdisciplinary curator who reflects on Kunstvereine both programmatically and structurally, and who understands how to make artistic processes accessible to diverse publics. Hendrike Nagel (born 1989 in Lübeck) most recently served as Artistic and Managing Director of the Kunstverein für Mecklenburg und Vorpommern in Schwerin. There, she realized a dialogical exhibition and public program, encompassing projects by artists such as Nancy Lupo, Julian Irlinger, Emily Jones, Cora Pongracz, Adriana Ramić, and, upcoming, Céline Mathieu, as well as Matthias Noggler & Paul Goesch, while deliberately fostering inter-institutional collaborations. Prior to her time in Schwerin, Hendrike Nagel held positions at several contemporary art institutions, including Kunsthalle Portikus, Schinkel Pavillon, and documenta fifteen. Alongside her institutional work, she has curated numerous exhibitions as an independent curator, including projects at Halle für Kunst Lüneburg and in collaboration with Villa Aurora & Thomas Mann House e.V. Since 2024, she has been a board member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Kunstvereine (ADKV).
