HELSINKI.- This year, in Amos Rex’s underground spaces, the fourth edition of the museum’s flagship exhibition Generation lifts voices of a young generation of artists, while the The Other Side of the Mountain explores distance and belonging through contemporary artists from the African continent and the Afro-Nordic diaspora. Above ground, Dansbana! transforms Lasipalatsi Square to a vibrant centre for movement, performance, and dance.

Generation 2026, May 13–September 6, 2026

Amos Rex kicks off spring 2026 with the fourth edition of the Generation triennial, a flagship project for the museum and a unique celebration of emerging artistic voices.

Generation 2026 brings together 50 artists and collectives aged 15–23, offering an unfiltered view into the concerns, struggles, and dreams of a young generation. The exhibition is a cornerstone of Amos Rex’s programme, anchoring the museum’s long-term commitment to present art of young people and to connect with young audiences by bringing their voices and perspectives forward.

The jury-selected works present a broad spectrum of artistic practices including video games, paintings, an interactive projection, different digital works, Youtube videos, as well as an active performing arts program created by eight different artists.

Through bold, multidisciplinary work, they explore identity, community, belonging, and power structures, while questioning the norms that shape our world.

The exhibition is curated by Inna Schwanck, with co-curator Elsa Hessle.

Dansbana! June 12–October 4, 2026

As part of Amos Rex’s annual summer programme, opening on Helsinki Day, June 12, Dansbana! transforms Lasipalatsi Square into a stage for dance and music, showcasing Amos Rex’s active presence in the public space.

Dansbana! is a project by Swedish architects Anna Fridolin, Anna Pang, and Teres Selberg, designed as a uniquely accessible public dance space for young adults. Drawing on the traditional Finnish dance pavilion, it updates this practice in the heart of Helsinki. Dansbana! allows for many kinds of dancers, while highlighting the importance of giving visibility to young girls in public spaces.

It’s a dance floor that is freely available for everyone to use by connecting your own device to the sound system via bluetooth. Visitors can also secure a specific time slot by booking in advance. In addition, Dansbana! will also be the setting for ten events during the summer, including dance, movement, and workshops.

The Other Side of the Mountain, October 14, 2026–March 21, 2027

The Other Side of the Mountain is a major international group exhibition at Amos Rex in fall 2026, featuring world-renowned contemporary artists from the African continent and the Afro-Nordic diaspora. The exhibition centres Black perspectives on the distances and proximities created by urban transformation, exploring cities as living organisms and landscapes as designed spaces.

Nearly 60 works—including textile, installation, video, photography, sound, sculpture, and painting, including three new commissions– act like time-traveling vessels, tracing overlapping histories and intertwined realities shaped by memory, movement and migration.

The exhibition is curated by Katariina Timonen (Amos Rex) and Marcia Harvey Isaksson (Southnord). The exhibition is produced and funded by Amos Rex, and is part of Southnord Artfest 2026 in Helsinki. The architect of the exhibition is designer and urban researcher Kunlé Adeyemi, founder of the architecture practice NLÉ and the graphic designer is London-based studio Alexander Boxill.

2026 will also see Amos Rex’s first international exhibition with the commission The Phantom Combatants and the Metabolism of Disobedient Organs by Natasha Tontey (Indonesia) presented at the Venice Biennale in May in partnership with leading German artand technology institution, LAS Foundation (Berlin).

Natasha Tontey’s exhibition will come to Amos Rex in 2027.
