AMSTERDAM.- Established in accordance with Jacqueline de Jongs will, following her passing in June 2024, the Jacqueline de Jong Foundation is committed to honouring her life and work, solidifying her enduring legacy as one of the most influential figures of her generation. Emerging from the post-war European avant-garde, De Jong built a multifaceted body of work over six decades, spanning painting, sculpture, printmaking, and publishing. A pivotal member of the Situationist International from 1960 to 1962, she later founded and edited The Situationist Times (19621967), a groundbreaking publication at the intersection of art, theory, and politics.
De Jong defied categorisation, drawing on some of the key movements of the 20th century such as European Expressionism, Pop Art and Narrative Figuration while subverting and reimagining their visual languages. She forged a unique body of work that addresses politics, popular culture, and contemporary life with a provocative blend of eroticism, violence, and humour.
The Foundations holdings comprise more than 450 works by the artist, an extensive archive, and her two residences; her primary home and studio in Amsterdam, where the Foundation is headquartered, and her home in the Bourbonnais, France. In preserving De Jongs rich legacy, the Foundation is committed to advancing scholarly research, fostering critical discourse, and supporting contemporary artistic practice. To this end, it develops exhibitions and publications focused on her oeuvre and supports artists through dedicated initiatives, including a scholarship programme at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten and the Cité internationale des arts for artists in exile.
