I work with personal videos a lot, especially old family clips. Some are from the 1960s and 70s, and many are black and white. A few months ago, I decided to look for a simple tool that could colorize black and white video without making the whole thing look fake. I am not a video editor, so I needed something easy. That is how I ended up trying
UniFab AI Video Colorizer.
This is my honest review after using it for a few weeks.
How I Started
I first tried several online tools. Most of them were slow or gave strange colors. Some turned faces red or made clothes neon. I wanted something that could colorize video in a more natural way. When I saw UniFab, I liked the idea that the software runs on my computer and not in a browser, so I gave it a try.
The download and setup were simple. No complicated steps. The interface looked clean when I opened it, so I wasn’t confused by too many buttons.
Trying My First Video
The first clip I colorized was an old video of my grandparents. The footage was shaky and low contrast. I didn’t expect a miracle, but the result was much better than I thought.
The AI
Video Colorizer added color in a soft way. Skin tones looked normal. Clothes had color but not overly bright. The background had a warm look that fit the time period. It still looked like an old video, but in a pleasant way. The best part is that it didn’t blur the faces like some other tools I used before.
After that, I tested more clips from different decades. Some were much older and had scratches. The software didn’t fix the scratches, but the color still helped bring the scenes to life.
When It Works Well (and When It Doesn’t)
From my tests, UniFab works best when the video:
● Has good lighting
● Has clear faces and edges
● Is not too shaky
● Has decent contrast
On badly damaged videos, the color is sometimes a bit washed out. On very dark scenes, the AI struggles to guess the right tones. But even then, the video usually looks better than the original black-and-white version.
Animation also gave good results. The colors were smooth and not blotchy.
Speed and Performance
On my mid-level PC, the processing time felt reasonable. Some videos took longer, especially when I chose a higher quality export. But I could still use my computer while it worked. It didn’t freeze or slow down everything else I was doing.
What I Liked and Didn’t Like
Liked:
● Very easy to use
● Natural-looking results
● Good for family videos
● Stable performance
Didn’t like:
● Some dark footage still looks dull
● Color choices are sometimes too safe
● No repair tools for damaged frames
My Final Opinion
If someone wants a simple tool to colorize black and white video without needing editing skills, UniFab is a solid choice. It doesn’t make perfect colors every time, but it does enough to bring old memories back to life. For personal projects, family archives, or small creative work, this Video Colorizer does the job well.
It is the first tool I’ve used that makes me want to go back and colorize even more of my old videos.
