MONTEREY, CA.- The Monterey Museum of Art presents the exhibit Shifting Ground: Rediscovered Treasures of the Monterey Museum of Art through February 25. The permanent collection of the Monterey Museum of Art contains more than 14,000 objects, spanning several continents and thousands of years. For the last several months, the Curatorial staff of the Museum has been engaged in a thorough examination of the collections holdings, which has yielded exciting findings that we are sharing with you now.
Shifting Ground: Rediscovered Treasures of the Monterey Museum of Art offers a long-awaited first look at some of the gems from the Museum's collection. Dont miss the opportunity to see this surprising selection of modern and contemporary Asian works, including decorative objects, ceramics, photographs, prints and paintings.
The Museum collects, preserves and interprets American art, in particular the work of artists active on the Monterey Peninsula and the West Coast. The Museum also collects Asian Art. The collection includes works by artists such as Armin Hansen, William F. Ritschel, Gottardo Piazzoni, and world-renowned photographers including Edward Weston and Ansel Adams.
