NEW YORK.- Abstract painter Rudolf de Crignis, 58, died. He was born in Winterthur, Switzerland. He studied at the Form + Farbe School for Art and Media Design in Zurich and the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg, Germany. He first worked as a performance and video artist. He first exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1976 in a group exhibition in the Swiss Pavilion called The Environment. He later focused on monochrome paintings in blues or grays. Galerie Palette in Zurich held his first solo exhibition in 1980. The Pamela Auchincloss Gallery held a solo exhibition in 1995. Works by Rudolf de Crignis are part of the collections in the Fogg Art Museum, the Yale University Art Gallery, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and the Kunsthaus Zürich.
