GLENSIDE, PA.- Arcadia University Art Gallery will open the exhibit Always Thinking of You: Paintings and Recent Constructions by Gerald Nichols starting on January 23 and running through March 11, 2007. Titled after a phrase from a Victorian carte de visit, this project by Philadelphia-based artist Gerald Nichols provides a comprehensive look at his reverence for a distressed American landscape. Filtered through Nichols' idiosyncratic, associative systemsa sensibility that merges a concern for formal abstraction and art history with the signification and immediacy of vernacular artthis new project was conceived specifically for the gallery and constitutes the artist's first solo exhibition in Philadelphia in nearly a decade.
A nationally recognized venue for contemporary art in the greater Philadelphia area, this 1200-square foot facility (housed in a 1893 power station) has for over 25 years provided the region with a stimulating roster of individual and thematic exhibitions shaped by our mission to encourage dialogue among artists, educators, students and the general public about current visual art and its socio-cultural relevance. Along with bringing the work of previously unexhibited or unknown artists to our region, the Gallery is also committed to local artists, actively encouraging innovative approaches to art production and acknowledging the contribution of long-standing, influential members of the art community.
