NEW YORK, NY.- This year’s New York Sale at Swann Galleries is a cornucopia of visual delights extolling the Big Apple. The highlights include desirable and sought-after works by print makers, photographers, designers and cartographers. Works by such luminaries as Martin Lewis, Edward Steichen, Berenice Abbot, Adolph Triedler, Lewis Hine, Garry Winogrand, Louis Lozowick and Mark Freeman abound in the auction.

Fine art will include a run of prints by Martin Lewis, such as Relics (Speakeasy Corner), drypoint, 1928 ($30,000-50,000) and Shadow Dance, drypoint, 1930 ($25,000-35,000). Louis Lozowick’s 57th Street, lithograph, 1929 ($5,000-8,000), Joseph Delaney’s Union Square, oil on canvas, 1975 ($5,000-7,000); Reginald Marsh’s The Upper Crust, charcoal on paper, 1927 ($4,000-6,000); and Red Grooms’ Deli, three-dimensional hand-cut color lithograph, 2004 ($3,000-5,000), also feature among others.

Leading the photography offerings is Bernice Abbott’s oversized photograph, New York at Night, 1932, printed later ($20,000-30,000). Also on offer is Steichen’s The Flatiron – Evening, from Camera Work XIV, 1904, printed 1906 ($10,000-15,000); Garry Winogrand’s Central Park Zoo, New York City, 1967, printed before 1984 ($8,000-12,000); Lewis Hine’s Steelworker on the Empire State Building, 1931 ($6,000-9,000); and Nathan Lyons’ 2002 portfolio After 9/11, complete with 15 photographs ($5,000-7,500).

Vintage posters showcasing travel to the city that never sleeps include Adolph Triedler’s New York Central Lines / The Wonder City of the World, 1927 ($8,000-12,000). Further vintage posters on offer include airline posters for Lufthansa, Pan Am and more featuring evening views of downtown Manhattan, notably David Klein’s iconic New York / Fly TWA, 1956 ($7,000-10,000), along with an impressive selection of Lincoln Center posters for the New York Film Festival with images by Jim Dine, Larry Rivers, Richard Avedon and Bruce Co.

Additional highlights include a signed and numbered copy of Saul Steinberg’s New Yorker’s View of the World, 1976 ($3,000-4,000), and Currier and Ives’ The City of New York, 1870 ($4,000-6,000).
